The Sika Watertight Concrete system will guarantee a dry basement at Greenwich Creekside, an exciting, £60 million new development for Telford Homes situated just south of the River Thames, in the London Borough of Greenwich. The scheme, which is part of the Creekside Village regeneration project, is designed by architects Squire and Partners, who have taken inspiration from the adjacent Laban Dance Centre for the design of this new development.

The basement areas, which will include underground parking, are extremely vulnerable to water ingress,
being situated close to the river and the corresponding high water table. To ensure a dry environment, Sika
Watertight Concrete was specified. A major benefit of the BBA certified Sika Watertight Concrete system
is time saved at the design and construction stages as the need for external membranes, tanking systems and cavity drains, with their inherent complex detailing and installation are eliminated, thus making the system very cost effective. Sika Watertight Concrete, has a 50 year successful track record and meets BS8102 grade 3 protection for ventilated residential and working areas.

Although not a requirement in this instance, it is an ideal solution where space is at a premium, as the overdig requirement is much reduced compared to traditional membrane methods.

Euromix Concrete are supplying 2500 cubic metres of Sika Watertight Concrete to AD Bly Construction
who are laying the floor slab and Atlantic Contracts Limited who are forming the walls. Construction joints
are being sealed with the SikaSwell® jointing system, which consists of joint sealing profiles that expand on contact with water to seal any voids between adjoining concrete slabs.

Four residential buildings ranging from eight to 17 storeys will form the first part of the development,
strikingly designed in steel and glass. Future plans for the overall development include restaurants, theatre
and jazz venue, along with covered walkways and communal piazza.
